Mr. Wongs and Palmer & Co.

Every corner of Mr. Wongs is a gorgeous vignette and the rustic bones of the building that is The Establishment (every square cm must be in use now) are exposed in all their historic glory. Bowls overloaded with fresh, luscious flowers sit atop ancient looking pieces of furniture. Silver plates and family photos, old hardware given a new life, wink at you from walls in secret dining rooms and hidden niches. Its a visual treasure trove and the food is mouth wateringly good too.
Here's a big cheer from me to the Hemmes family and the Merivale group for all they have done for Sydney's bar and restaurant scene.  And to Sibella Court who I believe had a bit to do with the fabulousness of the space that is Mr Wongs, (and another favourite of mine, El Loco, Cantina Y Barra  at the Excellsior in Surry Hills).
Palmer & Co. next door is another don't miss. The night we were there, a jazz trio were playing to a noisy, packed house. The gorgeous singer, dressed in 1920s garb, kicked up her heels while singing sultry jazz numbers. I really didn't want to leave, the atmosphere was charged. Almost too much to take in on one night. I'm grabbing friends and heading back  soon.
